Whale Shark Snorkel Safari

The day

Whale sharks are seen in South Ari Atoll all year

South Ari Atoll is one of the few places in the world where whale sharks can be seen all year. The boat heads out from Dhangethi into the Marine Protected Area and the crew searches the surface for a shark. When one is found the group slips quietly into the water to swim alongside it from a respectful distance.

Whale sharks are wild animals and sightings can never be promised. Over the year the sharks tend to favour the western side of the atoll from December to April and the eastern side from May to November, and the crew plans the route around that.
